The aged wood gives it a really pleasant natural compression with rich harmonics, strong sustain and a warm low end without becoming muddy. It has that classic vintage Yamaha “folk cannon” character: clear trebles, woody mids and surprisingly big bass response for its size. These older FG-series guitars also tend to resonate more freely with age, giving them a lively and broken-in feel that newer guitars often need decades to develop.

Specs / condition:

Made in Japan, Nippon Gakki era
Classic Yamaha folk dreadnought design
Original Yamaha tuning machines
Ply spruce top
Ply mahogany back & sides
Mahogany neck
Rosewood fretboard & bridge
X-braced construction
Includes hard case
Fresh fret polish, frets are shiny and in great shape
Medium-big C neck profile
Approx. 12" fretboard radius
25" scale length
1 11/16" nut width
Body width: 16 1/4"
Body depth: 4 1/2"
No cracks
No previous repairs
Neck is straight
No fret buzz

The guitar was recently cleaned up after a previous owner had painted the bindings white. Most of that paint has now been carefully removed and the guitar is back much closer to its original appearance. There is still a small bit of residue at the neck/top junction that can be removed with a bit of isopropyl alcohol and patience.

Current action is approximately 1.7mm on the high E and 2.25mm on the low E, which translates to a very comfortable fast-playing setup for a vintage acoustic. The saddle is already very low and the truss rod is at the end of its useful adjustment range, so I would consider the setup to be close to its practical limit. That said, the neck is straight, the action is comfortable, and the guitar plays well as it sits. There are a few marks on the top and back, as expected on a vintage acoustic, but nothing structural. No cracks, no previous repairs, and the guitar plays cleanly with no fret buzz.

Quick and insured shipping
