At Herscheid & the Headbangers : Fender Japan ST-54 Stratocaster with onboard preamp in Very Good condition!
Fender Japan ST-54 Stratocaster, made between 1989 and 1990 at the Fujigen factory, serial number “I0 xxxxxx.” It was a domestic Japanese model that I have imported, the aging of the metal hardware on the guitar is consistent with Japan's climate
Factory-fitted with Lace Sensor pickups.
Finished in Torino Red with a one-piece maple neck, soft V profile, and vintage-style hardware, following classic 1954 specifications.
The Lace Sensor set delivers clear, hum-free tone with great dynamic response, equally at home with clean or over driven sounds.
The guitar as been modified to have a master tone knob for all pickups and the lower tone knob let's you gauge how much preamp vs "direct" sound you want to send out of the guitar. It's an MN250K pot with a detent in the middle to help with the positioning. At 10 you have only the original lace sensor signal, no preamp, then it's start increasing until you reach 5. At 5, you have 100% of both. From there to 1 you reduce the lace sensor. Since it's a no load potentiometer, which are made to remove themselves from circuitry when turned all the way down, it will cut the signal of the guitar like a kill switch. Very useful in some situation.
Setup is comfortable with low action — 1.5 mm (0.059") on the low E and 1.25 mm (0.049") on the high E at the 12th fret.
Nut width is 1 5/8" (41.3 mm) and weight is 3.7 kg (8.16 lbs).
The neck nut is cracked on the middle (pictures) - since the nut is glued in place from factory it doesn't affect the guitar's performance
Shows some lacquer checking and light scratches consistent with normal use. I have documented them in the best way possible in the pictures along with the neck's finish wear.
All electronics function perfectly, the frets have good remaining life, and the truss rod moves freely for future adjustments.
Includes a brown teardrop hard case.
The whammy bar included is not original but fits well with the aged plastic. The pick guard, pickup covers and knob are a bit more on the cream/aged side than they appear in the pictures. - I do not have the back plate.
I had to replace the original pickguard screws at some point because they were not holding it properly anymore.
A solid late-’80s MIJ Stratocaster that blends vintage style with the quiet, 60hz hum reducing lace sensor pickups made in USA by Actodyne General Inc.
