At Herscheid & the Headbangers: Teac Tascam Series Model 3
Here’s a Teac Tascam Model 3 that I’ve spent way too much time bringing back to life. It’s listed in fair condition for the following reasons:
- Missing wood side panels
- Plastic frame around VU meter #3 has been glued
- VU meter bulbs are slightly oversized, so the bulbs show a bit
- Several replacement knobs (about half the pots were broken without knobs when I got it)
- On Channel 2, the #4 send doesn’t engage — I recommend using sends D or 1,2,3 for that channel instead
- I haven’t tested whether the VU needles are calibrated perfectly
Now the good stuff:
- Entire power section recapped → clean and stable DC supply for years to come
- Channels 1 & 2 completely recapped with Nichicon capacitors
- Both of those channels upgraded with OPA2134 op-amps (4 total)
- VU meter bulbs already replaced (a notoriously unpleasant job on this model — done for you)
- Pots and faders cleaned or replaced → no scratchy controls
This is a great mixer for someone who wants to take advantage of the sweet Tamura mic input transformers in the first 6 channels as part of their setup. All other functions have been tested and are working properly.
Features & highlights:
- Very low noise floor
- 3-band EQ: High (3kHz or 10kHz) and Low (75Hz or 200Hz) cut/boost; middle position bypasses the EQ entirely
- Mic attenuation: 0 / 20 / 40 dB
- Channels 7–8 offer switchable phono inputs or ¼" jack (instead of XLR)
This mixer does have a learning curve, but once you get comfortable with it, it can be used in many creative ways with excellent results.
***To my friends in the US,
If you’ve noticed higher shipping costs lately, it’s because as of August 28th I’m required to prepay duty on every package crossing the border. Unfortunately, this adds about a 35% tariff on the total value of each order. The margins on these mixers are already slim, so I can’t absorb this cost, and I don’t think it would be fair to raise prices for everyone to cover it.
That said, I truly value your support — US customers have always been my biggest champions when it comes to modded Yamaha mixers and many others, and I’m proud of that. Until things stabilize, I invite you to reach out to me directly at Herscheids.com so we can work out solutions case by case.
Thank you for understanding and for continuing to support my work.
