At Herscheid & the Headbangers: 1962 Fender Tremolux 6G9-A Blonde in Very Good Condition – Professionally Restored Vintage Classic
Originally introduced in the mid 50s, the Tremolux's redesign in the early 60's was among Fender’s first piggyback amplifier along with the Bassman, Showman and the Bandmaster — and the 6G9-A circuit, produced only in 1962, is one of the most desirable. It offers a unique tonal profile and It is sought by players looking for natural tube distortion.
This amp produces a modest 35 watts and breaks up much earlier than its bigger brothers. clean headroom and smooth breakup, powered by a freshly biased pair of vintage Made in England RCA 6L6GC tubes. The original harmonic tremolo circuit — bias-modulated — is very lush and musical.
Here’s the work that has been done on the amp:
- Complete Retolex – to correct a previous owner’s black spray paint job; now returned to proper blonde.
- Power section complete cap job – all electrolytic replaced with premium F&T capacitors.
- Brand New High-Quality Power Transformer & Output Transformer - Both present in the amplifier when I got it were already replacements and out of specs. I went for high quality Hammond replacement within specs for fantastic tone and durability
- Bias Adjusted & Adjustable Bias Circuit Installed – Perfectly adjusted for now; and all future bias set up will now be much easier
- Circuit Correction – a non-original standby mod was removed and returned to vintage-correct spec. The holes were filled up but this remains somewhat reversible if you want to install a standby switch later on.
- “Death Cap” Removed – The widow maker is gone..
- New 8-Foot 3-Prong Power Cord – Safety standards!
- 2 blue molded caps carrying a bit of DC voltage have been replaced. The originals, along with all replaced capacitors and tube sockets will be included with the amplifier.
- A few "out of specs" resistors have been changed as well
To top it off, the speaker cabinet contains a vintage Oxford 12M6 with 8-ohm impedance, voiced wonderfully with the tone ring enclosure — delivering everything from sparkling surf cleans to harmonically rich drive when cranked. All tubes are in perfect working order. Brand new Sovtek GZ34, vintage RCA 6L6GC (NOS), 7151 tube in V1 for a smoother tone in the normal channel.
Excellent working order, every component have been checked for your peace of mind! Here’s your chance to own a rare and highly coveted piece of Fender history with rare 6G9-A circuit.
