A classic late-80s recording console, fully serviced and completely recapped for reliable studio use. This desk has received an extensive overhaul and several practical upgrades to make it far more flexible for modern recording setups.

The mixer has been fully recapped using audio-grade Nichicon low-ESR capacitors throughout the entire console. This includes the power supply section and every individual channel, resulting in a noticeably cleaner signal path, improved stability, and a very low noise floor compared to stock units with aging caps.

Operation is smooth across the board with clean switches, no scratchy potentiometers, and solid routing functionality.

Direct Outs Mod (12 Channels)

Channels 5 to 16 have been modified with individual direct outputs, tapped post-EQ and post-fader.

This makes the mixer extremely useful as a front end for multitrack recorders, audio interfaces, or hybrid analog/digital studios, allowing each channel to feed a recorder independently while still benefiting from the console’s EQ and gain staging.

The first 4 channels were intentionally left original (though fully recapped) so that the mixer can still be used exactly as designed for tape return / inline monitoring workflows if desired.

Console Features

The M-216 is a compact but surprisingly capable recording console designed for project studios and multitrack tape systems.

Key features include:

• 16 input channels with mic/line capability
• 4 subgroup buses for flexible routing
• Stereo master bus with balanced XLR outputs
• Musical 3-band EQ section with sweepable midrange, known for shaping instruments without sounding harsh
• Multiple auxiliary sends including effect send and foldback send for cue mixes and external processors
• Dedicated effect return paths for integrating reverbs, delays, and other rack gear
• Insert points for channel processing
• Balanced outputs on the four main buses and the stereo master outputs

The console uses classic JRC op-amps in the signal path, contributing to the warm and slightly punchy character these Tascam desks are known for.

Perfect for:

• Hybrid studios
• Tape machines (Tascam, Otari, Fostex, etc.)
• DAW multitracking with analog front end
• Synth or drum machine summing

Additional notes:

• The VU meter lamp on meter #4 was replaced, which makes it slightly brighter than the others.
• Two blue LEDs near the master section were present when I received the mixer. They appear to simply indicate power on the 6V rail feeding the VU lighting. They do not affect the audio path.
• On channel 7, the effect send and foldback send potentiometers were replaced. Due to slight differences in the replacement parts, the channel PCB sits slightly offset. When pressing the bus buttons on that channel, they can occasionally require a small tool or pencil to help release them

• There's a few replacement knobs across the board but most are tascam or vintage yamaha knobs and they all fit well. The yellow knobs intended for the the mid EQ frequency are placed on channel 1-4 since they have been left original but you can place them however you want
