Highly distinctive amplifier from Yamaha’s early “Natural Sound” era. Built in Japan during a period where Yamaha engineering leaned heavily into acoustic fidelity and unconventional design, this unit stands apart from typical guitar amplifiers of its time.

The TA-60 is a solid-state amplifier rated at approximately 60 watts, designed around Yamaha’s Flexion speaker system. Unlike traditional guitar speakers, these drivers were engineered to provide a broader frequency response and a more even dispersion pattern. Combined with the cabinet’s angled (wedge) geometry, the result is a sound field that projects unusually well in a room, with a wide and immersive spread rather than a narrow forward beam.

The amplifier features two independent channels, each with its own tonal character, making it suitable for a range of instruments or blended inputs.

A key highlight is the onboard tremolo circuit, which is smooth, stable, and musically very usable across its full range. The spring reverb tank is fully functional and delivers a classic, deep analog response consistent with high-quality units of the era.

In terms of output, the TA-60 is surprisingly powerful. It maintains strong clean headroom and can easily reach high volume levels, making it suitable for rehearsal or live use.
