At Herscheid & the Headbangers: MAYA SG - Natural finish, original components in Very Good Condition!

Vintage Maya SG-style electric guitar, made in Japan during the early 1970s has part of the (very good) wave of Japanese manufacturers that produced quality Gibson-style instruments for export during this era but you most likely know everything about that already!

This model is a faithful interpretation of the classic SG shape with some distinct character and solid craftsmanship. The guitar features a natural finish over a mahogany body with a mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. The wood grain shows nicely through the clear coat, giving the guitar a simple but classy look.

The guitar has an open-book Gibson-style headstock and retains its original set of chrome-covered humbuckers. The floating trem bar responds well in both directions and has a wide range for crazy stunts or small, controlled nuances.

The neck is 21-fret, bolt-on with a comfortable D shape and a nut width of 43 mm at 1st fret, 50mm at the 12th fret. The rosewood fingerboard is in very good condition it has been oiled before putting up for sale. The frets have been polished as well and the truss rod moves freely and responds well, leaving room for future adjustments.

It's also a well-balanced guitar weighing in at just 2.84 kg (6.26 pounds) — on the lighter side of SGs with still great resonance unplugged.

It retains its original set of chrome-covered Maxon pickups. They deliver a classic voiced output — warm and smooth in the neck, with nice bite and clarity in the bridge. They’re vintage-output units, well suited for blues, classic rock, and overdriven tones without harshness.

All components are original, including the tuners, bridge, tailpiece, pots, and wiring. Controls operate cleanly with no noise or dead spots. The action is currently set at 2.8mm (7/64") on the low E and 2.0mm (5/64") on the high E at the 12th fret. The guitar plays well across the neck.

Frets show approximately 40% life remaining — they play cleanly with no choking, but will eventually need attention depending on your playing style. The action is currently set to 2.8mm (7/64") on the low E and 2.0mm (5/64") on the high E at the 12th fret. Intonation is good, and the guitar plays smoothly across the neck. Freshly strung with D’Addario 10–46 strings.

This Maya SG is ready to play out of the case, and makes a great alternative to vintage Epiphones or even entry-level Gibsons — particularly for those looking for something different with mojo, solid Japanese craftsmanship and original character.

The guitar will ship in the case shown in the pictures, fully insured.
