Yamaha Vintage S-50A 1970s - Japan - Spruce solid top
At Herscheids MTL : Sought-after classical shaped guitar from Yamaha, Nippon Gakki, Japan. Model S-50 A.
This is a guitar with a classical shape but it is internally braced to take light steel strings like a parlor guitar. 1967, when the S-50A was introduced, was the year when Yamaha first started making classical guitars, having trained up a team of craftsmen under a Spanish master luthier.
Apparent Specs:
TOP: Spruce
BODY: Katsura wood back and sides
NECK: Nato wood (Eastern Mahogany)
Fingerboard: Bubinga (African rosewood)
Frets: 19 - Access to 12
Vintage 42 mm bone nut
The feel of the guitar is amazing, with a old-school fat ''C shaped'' neck but yet isn't too large so it is highly enjoyable to play.
The guitar has lived most of its life with nylon strings so the neck is in great shape. The neck is straight and the frets are in good condition. The playing action is medium at 3.25mm at the 12th fret. The guitar plays all the way up the neck with no buzzing or dead spots.
There are some dings and marks to the wood on both sides of the guitar as photographed and two surface holes on the bottom near the strap peg. (the last photo focuses on those)
